On June 24th, 2022 there was a legal technicality that caused the protections of the Supreme Court Case, Roe vs Wade, to be invalidated by members currently sitting on the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
During that day, it was a normal day for our Founder. He had just completed a list of different projects that week, for his IT Position in the Financial Services Industry. While he had relatively little experience in the Nonprofit industry, stemming from a 4-month internship for a relatively small, regional nonprofit in 2012 in Orange County, CA; he had understood the basics.
He came home to log on to his social media as usual, to see what his friends were up to that Friday night. One particularly close and valued friend messaged him when he made contact saying, “*sigh* tough social day today man”. To which he replied, “Why?”. His close friend remarked, “Do you not read headlines?”
Apparently, our Founder does not watch TV, listen to news publications online, nor on radio, nor on broadcast. Rather than looking at the news, his friend mentioned to him the gravity of what happened while he was whisking away as normal during the work day. Abortions were no longer protected in certain states.
Our Founder has had always had a strange mix of political views, leaving him unclassifiable to any large political group. He had always had mixed views on a different spectrum of topics. One being abortion. In his eyes, his faith prohibits abortion. However, in the same faith, it is against the religion to criticize those of other faiths, or those within the same faith, and also against the religion to impose the faith’s views by force upon any member in global society. Although it is against the faith to have an abortion in a family, it is also against the faith to force beliefs upon those who do not follow the prescription. Therefore, for this reason, our Founder, and his younger sister and only sibling have always prescribed to the notion that you should not force your beliefs or views upon anyone, and you should rather help them and work together with them.
Our Founder had heard of these headlines the past few weeks, and it hit him that Friday night what had finally occurred. Later on his younger sister would say to him, “You don’t know anything about women, why are you doing this?”. He thought to himself that day, the only logical thing that should be done. Help the women in those states succeed and prosper with whatever beliefs and aspirations they have, and help them do what they feel is right in their hearts.
So immediately our Founder used his startup knowledge and experience to immediately ascertain the services of the most prompt entity filer, and immediately claimed all the social media and web domains for a new nonprofit Entity, “Operation Free Women”. He spent the entire weekend, with only 1-2 hours of sleep each night setting up operations and a foundation to serve in the next few weeks in the capacity of Founder, President, Treasurer, and Chief Executive Officer of “Operation Free Women”. And he gathered support as best as he could with any connections he could to set up what would fuel the business model, in nonprofit form (please see our homepage for our model).
Leading up to this blog post and intro, he put a promise to release 70% of the funds to other abortion funds whose work is valued in the community the very moment the law is changed. As of the date of this writing, the House of Representatives has already passed successfully, “The Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022”.
While he made that promise, as is required by law for all California Nonprofits: to release funds when closing down to other similar nonprofits to support the cause. He had difficulty gathering a sufficient method of exiting and making a sale of all assets he had instituted towards operations. It made no sense to dissolve the nonprofit after all the costs, time, and energy to set up operations had been expended. So right now, “Operation Free Women” is changing its model. We will remain in operation, to support women throughout the United States, as a safe place and resource for women to use for funding of abortion procedures regardless of their state of residence. That means, we will continue to fundraise, and as long as we have the funds while abortion is prohibited in certain states, we will target to assist women in those states. As soon as the “Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022” passes the Senate, we will revert to nationwide Operations, regardless of the residency of the women in need who come for assistance.
We at “Operation Free Women” wanted to thank all of our close friends, neighbors, colleagues, and social network of like-minded individuals for all their support towards the cause of our organization. We hope to see everyone in the coming months as exciting changes are coming our way.
